In this course, you will learn the ways in which culture shapes
communication among people from different cultures and how language acts on culture.
Intercultural communication consists not only of international contacts but also of intra-culture
contacts among people with different backgrounds in gender, age, geographic regions, religions,
social classes and etc. It also involves verbal, nonverbal and/or on-line communication with
various types and modes of resources or constraints. This course is designed to help you learn
and apply the knowledge of and skill for successful intercultural communication. I will use
various teaching methods such as lecture, class discussion, group activities, data analyses
and/or individual or group assignments throughout the course.
